Web Presence Consulting Approach Methodology
1. Exploration of
Options
We realize that Internet
technology is new to many people, and that therefore it is often
difficult to decide how best to use it. In this meeting we discuss
what other companies and organizations -- in your industry and
out -- are doing on the Internet, and show examples.
Being able to see
how others are using the Web -- both more effectively and less
effectively -- can help to clarify your thinking on how you want
to use it.
2. Definition of Objectives
and Strategy
Here we work with
you to specify what you want your Internet presence to accomplish.
We strive to understand your overall business operation and goals,
and help you select the Internet strategy that will have the biggest
payoff. Here are some examples of how companies use the Web:
- Market products
and services to the public
- Capture information
about or from your viewers
- Offer customer
service information
- Provide special
services to "members" or special customers
- Establish an internal
communication link among employees
By understanding the
technology available and having a broad awareness of current and
future uses of the Web, we help you clarify your Internet strategy
and the scope of your project. We also help you define those groups
who may be involved in the implementation of your strategy --
marketing team, creative team, ad agency, IS department.
3. Design and Project
Specification
With the other involved
groups, if any, we prepare a preliminary design for your approval.
This details what the Web pages and other Internet tools will
look like; who will create the copy, artwork, and other source
materials; and how it will all work technically.
Along with the design,
we prepare a project plan that shows deliverables and completion
dates.
4. Implementation
This is where your
Internet presence is created and brought online. You can have
us carry out the implementation, or you can have us act as project
managers or advisors or reviewers to your internal staff or team.
Here artwork and copy
are generated, Web pages are created, online documents are produced,
accounts and domains are set up, pages and other files are loaded
onto Internet servers, and everything is tested.
5. Publicity
Even the most beautiful
and creative Web site is a failure if no one looks at it. We develop
a plan for publicizing your site online (including Internet directories
and search engines) and work with you to publicize the site off-line
(advertising, literature, event handouts, etc.)
6. Maintenance
Ideally, an Internet
presence fosters an active connection with the viewers. This range
from simple changes and additions to the site to ongoing feedback
from your "community." In addition, there is ongoing
"technical upkeep" required -- managing mailing lists,
verifying that links are still good, producing viewer statistics,
watching over the database.
It's important to
have a plan for the content maintenance, as well as the technical
maintenance. You can have us do the maintenance, or we can help
create a plan for your team to do it.
7. Follow-up and Review
Just as with any marketing
or customer service campaign, it's important to review your Internet
effort periodically. We help you revisit your objectives and investigate
how well they are being met. We prepare recommendations for any
course corrections that seem called for.
